T-Base Communications Partners with Pearson to Offer Braille and Large Print Versions of Textbooks

This innovative partnership benefits students who are blind or have low vision, to ensure that they have more timely access to their course materials, as required by law

T-Base Communications, North America’s leading provider of textbooks in accessible formats, and Pearson, the world’s learning company, have partnered to offer braille and reflowed large print versions of Pearson textbooks for top-selling titles, with a view to revolutionizing how schools and students acquire accessible learning materials.

Students who are blind or have low vision often prefer to learn from a braille or large print version of their textbook. However, procuring these versions has traditionally been a time-intensive and costly process that has disadvantaged students who are forced to endure long waits for materials in their preferred format.

T-Base can now deliver Pearson’s top-selling titles in braille and reflowed large print significantly faster—within 10 business days—and at a substantial cost reduction to educators. Procuring accessible textbooks through this new, more efficient process allows students to stay on pace with their academic calendar and allows educators to deliver a much-improved learning experience.

“T-Base is proud to partner with Pearson to proactively catalog braille and reflowed large print textbooks,” said Jeff Jullion, T-Base Senior Account Manager. “When educational institutions access this catalog, they receive prompt turnaround and savings of up to 70% off traditional accessible format pricing.”

“At Pearson, we understand how important accessibility is to learners,” said Jonathan Thurston, Pearson’s Head of Accessibility. “Our partnership with T-Base is another step Pearson is taking to level the playing field and provide leading educational products that are equally usable by all.”

To build the catalog of Pearson titles, T-Base uses FASTtrack (pronounced “Fast Track”), a proprietary software platform that significantly accelerates the creation of accessible documents. The development of this catalog in partnership with Pearson coincides with T-Base’s primary goal: to ensure that the delivery and quality of instructional materials for students who are blind or have low vision are on par with that of their sighted peers.
