Frequently Asked Questions.
Allyant can produce a range of accessible textbook formats to support students with various disabilities.
Formats include:
- Braille in multiple codes, including Nemeth for mathematics. Braille is available in both embossed hard copy and digital formats compatible with refreshable braille displays.
- Tactile graphics that convey visual information through touch, helping students who are blind or have low vision understand things like diagrams and maps.
- Reflowed large print that features enlarged fonts (typically 18-point or larger) and simplified layouts. Reflowed large print adjusts the layout into a single column, enhancing readability both in print and digital formats.
- Accessible PDFs that are structured to comply with accessibility standards, featuring proper tagging, alternative text for images, proper heading structure and more to ensure compatibility with assistive technologies like a screen reader.
Allyant follows a standards-driven approach to tactile design, focusing on creating high-quality tactile graphics that enhance accessibility for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
Our lead tactile graphic artist chairs the Braille Authority of North America’s (BANA) Tactile Graphics Technical Committee, ensuring that their designs align with the latest industry standards and best practices. We offer customer-specific scripting for tactile graphics, creating tailored solutions that meet the unique requirements of each project, while maintaining compliance with BANA standards.
With this level of expertise reflected in both our people and our processes, we ensure tactile graphics are not only compliant with accessibility standards but also effectively convey information to users who rely on touch for reading and learning.
