Allyant Awards Scholarships to Canadians through the Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians (AEBC)

Allyant proudly continues its thirteen-year tradition by awarding two $1,000 scholarships through The Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians (AEBC). These scholarships are part of Allyant’s ongoing commitment to supporting equity and inclusion and the educational and professional aspirations of people with visual impairments.

What is Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians (AEBC)?

The Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians (AEBC) is a national charitable organization dedicated to advocating for the rights of blind Canadians, ensuring equal participation in all aspects of society. Since its inception in 1992, AEBC has been at the forefront of efforts to eliminate barriers and promote accessibility, equality, and inclusion.

This year’s scholarship recipients, Catheryne Houde and Joshua Simmonds, exemplify the spirit of perseverance and dedication that AEBC and Allyant aim to foster.

Catheryne Houde, one of the scholarship recipients, expressed her gratitude: “I am thrilled to receive a scholarship from Allyant, as it represents not just a financial boost but a recognition of my efforts to advocate for people with disabilities. This support will empower me to continue breaking down barriers and striving for a more inclusive and accessible society.”

The second scholarship recipient, Joshua Simmonds, shared his enthusiasm: “I am incredibly grateful to receive this scholarship from Allyant. It will provide essential support for my internship at the Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay Vision Rehabilitation Center, offering me a unique opportunity to deepen my research and practical understanding of vision rehabilitation. This funding is a significant step towards advancing my work in the field.”

Ariel Kunar, CEO of Allyant, remarked, “We are honored to support such outstanding individuals as Catheryne and Joshua. We look forward to the positive impact they will undoubtedly make in their communities and beyond.”

Marcia Yale, National President of AEBC, commented, “The continued support from Allyant has been instrumental in advancing our mission. These scholarships not only provide financial assistance but also validate the hard work and commitment of our members. We are proud to partner with Allyant to foster the next generation of leaders and advocates for the blind community.”
